1. As the primary product of coking, over 90% of coke is employed in blast furnace ironmaking in most countries. Replacing charcoal with coke for iron smelting laid the foundation for modern large blast furnace operations, marking a significant milestone in the history of metallurgy.
2. Used for casting and smelting non-ferrous metals like copper, lead, zinc, titanium, and antimony. It acts as a reducing agent, heat agent, and structural column skeleton.
3. In the smelting industry, a small portion is utilized to prepare calcium carbide, carbon disulfide, phosphorus, and other elements. Additionally, in steel joint ventures, coke powder serves as a sintered fuel. It is also a key raw material for water gas preparation and synthesis.
4. To achieve optimal technical and economic indicators in blast furnace operations, smelting coke (metallurgical coke) must possess specific chemical and physical properties, including thermal properties necessary for the smelting process.
5. Besides extensive use in iron and non-ferrous metal smelting (metallurgical coke), coke is also essential for casting, chemical processes, calcium carbide production, and ferroalloy manufacturing.
Coke can substitute refinery coke or stone grinds on a large scale, offering a significantly lower cost. As a fuel, its calorific value exceeds 9386K/KG, making it a viable alternative to burned carbon, which requires export quotas. This gives the carburizing agent a clear price advantage.
